Various Ways to Warm Sake There are various ways to warm your sake, but regardless how you warm it up, make sure to warm it little by little since sake changes its taste rapidly by just a small change of its temperature.
By using a microwave oven
Pour sake in a small Tokkuri and cover the top with a plastic film. Make sure you don’t fill it up to the top, but up to about 3 quarters of the Tokkuri. Then put the Tokkuri in the microwave oven and warm it for about 30 seconds. After taking it out, shake the Tokkuri gently in order to let the warmth spread equally. If you want the sake to be hotter, you can warm it in the oven again. Please note that the stimulating fragrance of alcohol will get stronger as it gets warmer. I personally recommend it lukewarm.
Warm the Tokkuri with hot water
Pour water in a pot and boil it. After the water is boiled, put the Tokkuri with sake in it, and warm it for about 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, take it out and make sure the Tokkuri is warm. Repeat this process for several times until the Tokkuri’s temperature is warm enough.
Warm the sake cup directly before drinking
For those of you who do not want to take time on warming sake, pour sake in the sake cup and place it directly in the pot fill of hot water. Just make sure that you do not spill the sake into the pot when you do so. When the sake starts steaming, your Kanzake is ready.
